Retix FAQ

The questions that come up most, answered without marketing language.

Is Retix free?

Yes, and there is nothing to buy. No purchase flow exists in the game at all: no currency packs, no battle pass, no cosmetics store that takes money.

Gold is the only currency, and the only source of gold is playing matches.

Is it pay to win?

It cannot be, because there is no way to pay. Every weapon and every upgrade level in the game was bought with gold somebody earned in a match.

A player with a fully upgraded Railgun has played roughly a hundred and thirty winning matches for it.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play as a guest immediately. What an account changes is persistence: gold, unlocks, upgrades and your match history are tied to it, so a guest who clears their browser storage starts over. Signing in is done with a Google account.

Is there anything to download?

No. Retix runs in a browser tab, with no launcher, no installer and no patch process.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, with a full touch control scheme instead of an on-screen keyboard. Every action available on a keyboard has a gesture or a button, laid out so that everything needed mid-fight is inside reach of the aim stick and the left thumb never leaves movement. Phone and desktop players are in the same matches.

What languages does it support?

Nine: English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, French and Russian. The language is picked from your browser unless you choose one in settings, and changing it does not reload the page.

How long is a match?

Team Deathmatch and Free For All are four minutes, Domination is capped at ten, and Battle Royale has no timer at all. Its ring closes for the last time 409 seconds in, so a full battle royale usually runs seven to ten minutes.

What happens if nobody else is queuing?

Bots fill the empty seats and the match starts anyway, and you can pick their difficulty yourself. Bot kills pay less gold than kills on people, scaled by the difficulty you asked for, so a bot-filled lobby is a real match and not a gold farm.

Can I play against my friends?

Yes. Parties are created from the home screen and joined with a code, and a party enters matchmaking together. Duo and squad Battle Royale exist for exactly this.

How do you deal with cheaters?

The server owns the simulation, so a modified client has nothing to lie about: it never states damage, position or weapon stats. On top of that there are ten published detection ceilings covering speed, teleports, fire cadence, reload timing, accuracy, headshot share, aim snap and input flooding.

Two flagged matches produce a seven-day suspension.

Can I make my own character skin?

Yes. Skins are drawn in an in-game editor as a palette of coloured cells, and a finished skin can be exported as a short share code beginning with RXSK. The code carries only the skin data, meaning colours and cell positions, and contains no account information.

Why does my aim feel different from the enemy's?

Eight of the twelve weapons fire a projectile with a real flight time and need to be led, while the two shotguns and two snipers resolve instantly. If a gun feels like it is arriving late, it probably is. Check the weapon page for its projectile speed.

Why can I not see further on a bigger monitor?

The camera zooms in instead of out to fill a larger screen, so a 4K monitor draws the same amount of world, bigger. The server only sends what is inside that box, so there would be nothing to draw in the extra space anyway.

It also means a bigger screen, a browser zoom-out and a tampered client are all worth zero extra vision.

Do the classes need unlocking?

No. All eight are available from the first match and you can swap on every respawn. Only weapons past the two free starters cost gold.

What is the fastest way to earn gold?

Domination, if you are willing to stand on the point. Objective credit pays 20 gold apiece, more than a kill and an assist combined, and a completed capture pays two of them to everybody standing there. After that, the first win of each UTC day is worth 300 gold on its own.

What does XP do?

It moves your account level and nothing else, since XP cannot be spent. Each level costs 200 XP more than the one before it, and reaching a level pays gold equal to the level number times a hundred. Every fifth level also grants paint colours for the skin editor.

I went AFK for part of a match. Do I still get paid?

Only if you did something. Three or more kills, assists and objective credits combined clears the bar on its own, and so does spending at least 40% of the match duration alive and playing. A completely empty scoreboard earns nothing no matter how long the tab was open.

Can I refund a weapon upgrade?

Yes, for a flat 500 gold. A respec refunds every level bought on that weapon, and the refund is recomputed from the price curve instead of read from a stored total, so it always matches what those levels were actually worth.

Why did my character rubber-band backwards?

Your browser predicts your movement so that walking starts the instant you press a key, and the server runs the authoritative copy. When the two disagree, usually because of a slow connection, the server's answer wins and you snap to it. Same mechanism that makes it impossible to shoot through a wall by lagging.

How big are the maps?

The five arena maps are all 3,600 × 2,880 pixels on an 80-pixel grid, so 45 tiles by 36. Frontier, the battle-royale map, is 27,200 pixels square: about fifty-seven times the area, with 5,355 wall pieces and 294 loot zones.

Is one side of a map better than the other?

No. Maps are authored as a left half and mirrored, so both halves are geometrically identical, and the server refuses to start on a map whose halves do not match. Any advantage on one side exists in mirror image on the other.
